Land surface temperature - Regions

This dataset provides indicators on land surface temperature in large (TL2) and small (TL3) regions.

Data definition and source

Land surface temperature refers to the average temperature of the land surface within a local area, excluding water bodies. Data are available for both daytime and nighttime, as well as annually and by season (summer and winter). These temperatures are derived from MODIS Aqua and Terra satellite observations, which offer high-frequency measurements at a spatial resolution of 1 km.

Definition of regions

Regions are subnational units below national boundaries. OECD countries have two regional levels: large regions (territorial level 2 or TL2) and small regions (territorial level 3 or TL3). For more information, see the OECD Territorial Grid (pdf) and the OECD Territorial Correspondence Table (xlsx).
