The IMF Global Policy Tracker provides a high-frequency, cross-country database of policy measures announced in response to the war in the Middle East. The IMF Global Policy Tracker has the broadest macroeconomic scope and the most structured taxonomy compared to other trackers. As of end-May 2026 it covered 879 measures in 167 countries.
The tracker is designed to support real-time monitoring of policy actions, facilitate cross-country comparisons, and inform analysis of the economic impact of the shock and the effectiveness of policy responses. The tracker captures a wide range of policy actions across countries, including fiscal measures, pricing interventions, monetary and financial policies, foreign exchange operations, trade measures, and broader real-sector responses. Measures are classified into a consistent taxonomy to enable comparability across countries and time.
The tracker also underpins a broader web platform that serves as a one-stop shop for policy response tracking—bringing together information from different sources and institutions, linking to related IMF outputs, and providing guidance on key steps with illustrative examples of good practices and emerging risks.
The database combines AI-enabled news scanning with Fund desk inputs and systematic validation. Policy measures are identified through automated text analysis of publicly available sources and are subsequently reviewed and cross-checked against other international trackers and country team information.
The tracker will be updated periodically as new measures are announced. It is intended to serve as a resource for policymakers, researchers, and the public.
