From 1 January 2012, the foster care is divided into familiar and institutional. The family foster care includes foster families and foster homes. From 2020 to 2022 foster families and foster homes were reported by the powiat where they operated. Up to 2020 and again from 2023 the foster families and foster homes are reported by the powiat which its president signed the contract for performing such function.
