Nitrous oxide is a potent greenhouse gas; agricultural emissions are generally associated with fertilised soils and manure, so the measure covers a climate problem that cannot be solved by cleaning up electricity generation alone.
The longer path had been comparatively gradual. The reading was 41.71% in Q1 2010, 51.3% in Q2 2019 and 59.32% in Q4 2024 before the latest move to 65.37%.
Treat that endpoint as a data flag, not yet an emissions verdict. The feed classifies the series as percentage-like, but the indicator label describes metric tons of CO₂ and provides no denominator for the percentage. That unit inconsistency, combined with a final-quarter break that is not corroborated by other material here, leaves open the possibility of a revision, definition change or one-off correction. None is documented, so none can responsibly be named as the cause.
If later releases validate the increase and clarify the units, the direction would matter for fertilizer efficiency, soil management and manure policy across the region. Until then, this single observation is too uncertain to quantify a region-wide deterioration or progress toward emissions targets.
