New-car CO₂ falls, but emissions gaps persist across the EU

New cars emitted less CO₂ per kilometre in all five countries covered in 2025, but each remained above the EU average of 98.3 g/km. Czechia's average was 127.9 g/km.

  • Czechia: New cars averaged 127.9 g of CO₂ per kilometre in 2025, down from 132.3 in 2024, but still 30% above the EU average.
  • Croatia: Emissions fell by just 0.8 g/km to 124.7 g/km, leaving new cars 26.9% above the EU average.
  • Slovenia: Average emissions dropped 8.1% to 116.3 g/km, reversing the previous year's rise.
  • Latvia: New-car emissions fell 12.3% to 113.5 g/km, but remained above the EU average.
  • Lithuania: Emissions declined 12.1% to 112.7 g/km, also remaining above the EU average.

The shared picture is progress in reducing new-car CO₂ emissions, but persistent gaps against the EU average of 98.3 g/km.
