Banks report more short term debt in other currencies
French banks’ short-term debt to nonresidents in the IMF’s catch-all ‘other currencies’ category rose from $159,998.58 million in 2024 to $233,921.15 million in 2025, the highest reading in data starting in 2013. It is a gross liability measure, however, not a verdict on the banking system’s financial health.
